Nothing warms the soul more than a hearty Texas Chili. This recipe has all the classic ingredients, kidney beans, ground beef, tomatoes and spices. I think I’ve balanced the flavors so that everyone will enjoy this chili. Now, if you’re like me, you like a little heat. Well, this recipe is flexible enough to let you kick up heat to your personal preference. So make it mild, or make it wild, this Texas Chili recipe is sure to become one of your favorites.

Hearty Texas Chili

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups yellow onion diced
  • 3/4 cup green bell pepper diced
  • 3/4 cup red bell pepper diced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic minced
  • 28 ounces canned crushed tomatos
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 16 ounces canned red kidney beans drained
  • 16 ounces canned red kidney beans with liquid
  • 15 1/2 ounces cannellini beans with liquid
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp dried parsley bruised
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano bruised
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried basil bruised
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp ancho chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp chipotle chili flakes
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Place a 12" skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. When the oil is shimmering, carefully add the ground beef and cook until evenly brown. Drain grease & discard
  • Add the beef in a slow cooker. Next add the onion, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, garlic, diced tomatoes, tomato paste & beans. Fold to thoroughly mix.
  • Lastly, add the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  • Cover, and cook 8 hours on Low

    Tried this recipe at home in my Crock-Pot. Gotta say that my wife and I have never tasted a chili that’s as hearty, balanced, and delicious as this one. Top with thick-cut shredded sharp cheddar and you can’t beat it!
